THE FOVES -
On the very first days of the year of grace 2008, a horde, or should I
say a pack of six young males, gleaming and humming, takes up arms for
a ruined enterprise...
As our contemporary societies, stigmatized in Modern Times,
rock'n'roll is hack-neyed or even widely criticized. Its essence has
vanished, and everything has already been created or achieved... This
is where the will of this band lays : to revive the true spirit of
this music, which originated its primal instincts in poetry, pictorial
art and various erotic fantasies.
The dismal weariness shared by their fellow contemporaries, comparable
to the deep boredom of the band's members, has turned them into a
revengeful lot against the actual musical industry. Called like the
Heroes of yesteryear, they dared and managed to mix candidness, rage
and love in their music, a real haven for lost thoughts.
Now their cage is wide open, and nobody is capable of taming them...
The Foves are on their way...

Wenn es einen typischen New Yorker Sound gibt, dann zählt die Musik von
Christy & Emily in jedem Fall dazu. Musikalische Normen diesseits und auch jenseits
von Folk und Avantgarde werden gesprengt. Was auch kein Wunder ist, wenn
eine kalifornische Autodidaktin an Gitarre und Schlagzeug in Brooklyn auf klassische
Pianistin aus Ohio mit Schwerpunkt Neue Musik, Emily Manzo, aufeinandertreffen.
New Yorker Exzentrik und der Hang zu bizarrer Melancholie paart sich mit
Herzlichkeit und liebevoll intonierter Sehnsucht nach traditioneller amerikanischer
Folkmusik. Gefühlvolle Homestudio Splitter und zuckersüße Gesangsharmonien
stapeln Christy & Emily schichtweise übereinander, so dass es schwer ist zu unter-
scheiden, wo Struktur endet und Atmosphäre beginnt. Während Emily Manzo
am Piano swingt, spielt Christy Edwards (spielte u.a. im Punk-Projekt The Nightingales)
schlichte Akkorde auf der Gitarre.
Auf dem neuen und von Hans Joachim Irmler (faust) produzierten Album
"No Rest" (Klangbad / Broken Silence) zeigen Christy & Emily wie Gesang, Keybord
und Gitarre aus Brooklyn klingen kann. Der abwechselnde bis wild übereinander-
liegende Gesang des Duos, oft an der Grenze der Zerbrechlichkeit und immer tief
berührend zu dieserwunderschönen und gleichzeitig schrägen Musik machen Christy
& Emily zu einem besonderen Erlebniss zeitgenössischer Musik.

THE RULING CLASS -
...consist of Jonathan Sutcliffe (vocals), Tomas Kubovicz (guitar / vocals), Anton
Lindberg (bass), Andy Needle (guitar) and Alfie Tammaro (drums). Together
they have spent the past eighteen months working out of their base at the Gun Factory
in Stoke Newington, perfecting a form of music which has had them gasping in
the aisles.
** 'Sleeping Beauty' / 'Marian Shrine' is the second fragrantly, blatantly pop-tastic 7"
release from THE RULING CLASS following the sell-out success of 'Flowers' / 'If You
Wonder' on Label Fandango in the summer of 2008. One day after the single comes
out, on July 21st, THE RULING CLASS will play the biggest headline show of their wee
careers when they headline the iconic 100 Club on London's Oxford Street.
** The 100 Club show is a bold statement of intent from one of the music industry's
worst kept secrets: youthful tykes such as S.C.U.M., The Horrors and Peaches
Geldof have all professed their admiration for THE RULING CLASS's grooves; and over
the past year they have toured with The Charlatans and The Twang, shared stages
with idiosyncratic souls such as Glasvegas and Hatcham Social and played the Offset
Festival in Epping Forest. And all this without a live agent, a lawyer, a record deal or any
of the other modern day indie accessories which enable the average guitar band to
make a cup of tea without falling over.
** Being young men who are very much aware of the big Continental picture THE
RULING CLASS have been playing in Moscow, Dresden and, y'know, Munich during the
spring. And next up they'll be playing here, here and here…
